CIGNA Life Insurance

Life insurance is designed to provide funds to a survivor, family or business in the event of a death. It is used to help replace income, pay off mortgages, debts or estate taxes, provide cash to buy out a partnership or acquire stock owned by the deceased.

Life insurance provides financial security if a family depends on the insured's income; the policy's cash benefits can be used to restore all or part of the lost income in the event of the insured's death.

CIGNA Life insurance has two main components:

  • Protection: The amount the insurance company will pay in the event of a death.
  • Premium: The amount paid to purchase the protection.

A third component applies to the types of life insurance other than term policies:

  • Equity: The cash value, dividend, interest or other portion of the policy that establishes a savings segment found in whole life or universal life.

CIGNA Group Insurance makes available group term life insurance to members of sponsoring organizations such as associations and affinity groups. The sponsoring organization can either purchase the insurance for its members or make the coverage available for purchase by its members and their families.

CIGNA Group Insurance provides group life insurance products and services to employers to help meet the needs of employees, retirees and their families. CIGNA offer three types of life insurance: Universal Life, Variable Life, and Term Life Insurance.

Universal Life Insurance
Group Universal Life (GUL) is a flexible plan for life insurance protection that has the added option of tax-deferred earnings on accumulated cash value. Both the insurance and cash value components of Universal Life are designed to allow adjustments in contribution amounts as financial needs change.

Variable Universal Life
Group Variable Universal Life (GVUL) is more than life insurance. GVUL is portable group life insurance protection plus a tax-advantaged wealth accumulation vehicle.

GVUL offers the opportunity to purchase significant amounts of life insurance coverage at affordable group rates and a variety of investment options with nationally known investment managers. GVUL is a flexible insurance product owned and controlled by employees that can be adjusted to fit life's changing needs.

The GVUL product is offered to eligible persons by prospectus only. The prospectus can be obtained from CIGNA Financial Services, Inc. The prospectus should be read carefully before investing or sending money.

This GVUL product, issued by Connecticut General Life Insurance on form number XX605481 and state variations thereof, is nationally distributed by CIGNA Financial Services, Inc., a broker-dealer and affiliate of CIGNA Corp. Insurance products and services are provided by the individual CIGNA Companies and not CIGNA Corporation itself. Connecticut General Life Insurance Company is an underwriting company for CIGNA Group Insurance, a division of CIGNA Corporation. Sale of this policy is subject to state approval.

Term Life Insurance
CIGNA Term life protection lasts for a temporary period or term. Different types of term life coverage include yearly renewable terms, 5-, 10-, 15-, or 20-year terms, a term to age 65, decreasing term, mortgage protection, credit life and group term life. Once the policy period ends, the contract expires and the insurer has no further obligation.

The term product issued by Connecticut General Life Insurance on form LN430 and state variations thereof, is an individual one-year, non-renewable, non-convertible product. Sale of this product is subject to state insurance department approval.

Today, many employers sponsor benefits that their employees can choose and pay for. These are called voluntary benefits. And employees are increasingly aware of the need to protect their financial security after changing jobs and after retiring. Benefits that meet this need are called portable. CIGNA Group Insurance offers many voluntary, employee-paid and portable options. Talk to your benefits manager at work to find out more about what you can do for your own financial security.
